The RMR's small window is the price of its toughness; under stress a poorly presented gun can leave you hunting for the dot behind the sidewalls. The SRO's tall, open hood snags more and is more exposed to grit and impact, which is exactly why it is the range and competition choice rather than the duty one. And be honest about the ecosystem cost: both want the right mounting hardware. An AR or PCC build needs a Q-LOC quick-release co-witness mount or, if you want the dot sitting down close to the rail, a low Picatinny RMR mount, and a Glock slide without a milled cut needs a dedicated RMR Glock mount. Budget for the mount before you are surprised at checkout.
The verdict, pegged to the job
Both optics sit in the premium tier, and neither is the cheap answer; you are buying Trijicon's track record. Priced against each other they land close enough that use case, not dollars, should drive the call.
